John's Bio
I started yo-yoing when I was 4 1/2 and saw a kid doing really cool 1 and 2 handed tricks on the "Bill Cosby" show. That did it - I wanted to learn how to yo yo after that. It took my Mom a few days but she finally found a local yo yo club from the internet. My parents brought me there every Friday for the next 5 years until it dissolved. I'm now 11 yrs old and mainly a Single A player, but I also do Off string, 2 hand, and some Counter-weight. My favorite yo-yo's are the The Black Knight(of course), the Hitman, Dark Magic, Aquarius, and the Special Agent. I also collect yo-yos and I currently have over 500 and counting in my collection. My oldest one is an original wood Filipino Goody and my rarest is one of Johnnie DelValle's X-Con prototypes that I got at Worlds. I'm sponsored by Yo-yo Jam and on their National Yo-yo Jam Team. They're one of the top yoyo manufactures in the world, but then maybe I'm a little prejudiced. I go to most of the yo-yo contests that are in the area and also to the Worlds contest in Orlando and Nationals in Chico, CA. Check out my contest and records page to see how I've been doing.
I do solo public and private yo-yo performances for schools, Pack meetings, birthday parties and music fests. I have performed at the Boundary Water's Blues Fest in Ely, Mn the last couple of years and will be there again in 2008. Check out the video clip page and you'll see a clip of me performing there. Schools have been everything from a full assembly of apx. 600 students to individual classrooms.
I'm also tournament chess player and go to tournaments about everyother week during the school year. I started playing when I was 4 year old at the Montessori school I went to. In the local SCA I currently have over 300 merit points, which is basically 1 point for every game won and 24 chess trophies from all the tournaments I've played in. My USCF rating is currently at 1174.
Music is another one of my hobbies. I've played the guitar for the last 2 years and have both a classical and a Fender electric. I've played the drums for the last few years on my drum set, which was compliments of Tony Danza.
